Top 100: Jeremy Ferry, Centreville, Wrestling, 1995

The sellout crowd of 3,850 at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake gave Jeremy Ferry a standing ovation. The senior from Centreville high school had just won his 126th-consecutive match to earn his third-straight AAA individual state wrestling championship.

Top 100: Rickey Harris, Centreville, Track and Field

When Centreville’s Rickey Harris was entered in a race, it was almost a foregone conclusion that he was going to win. "You almost got to the point where you didn’t watch him that much because you knew that he was going to win," said Centreville track coach Roy Ferri.

Top 100: Will Montgomery, Football

During his time at Centreville High School, there wasn’t a season that Will Montgomery didn’t excel in sports. In the fall, Montgomery was a leader on the offensive and defensive line for the Wildcats football team. During the winter, he was a starting basketball player that finished second on the team in rebounds as a senior.

Lady Saxons snag spot in Northern Regional lacrosse finals.

Langley High’s varsity girls lacrosse team earned a spot in the finals of the Northern Regional tournament and a seeding in the upcoming Virginia High School League (VHSL) state tournament with a thrilling semifinals comeback win over the Centreville Wildcats on the turf field at Marshall High School’s Jimmie Miller Field last Thursday, May 24.

Oakton Spoils Championship Lax Night for Locals

Westfield boys, Centreville girls both reach Concorde finals.

Two local high school lacrosse teams — the Centreville High girls, and the Westfield boys — both reached the finals of their respective Concorde District tournaments last week. Both squads played in district title games on Friday, May 11 at Chantilly High School, the host site of both the girls' and boys' tournaments. The night, however, belonged to Oakton High which saw both its teams (girls and boys) earn district championship banners.

Numerous Wildcat lacrosse players earn all-district accolades.

The Wildcats competed in two local invitational meets to close out their regular season. The team hosted the inaugural Centreville Freshman Track Classic on Saturday evening, May 12.

The Centreville High girls’ softball team is playing its best ball at the right time of the spring with the regular season winding down and the postseason just ahead.

Lady Wildcats defeat Herndon in softball.

Softball: The Lady Wildcats came out on top of their `rematch week’ with big wins against Herndon on Tuesday, May 1st and Westfield on Friday, May 4th. They have two wins against Robinson, one loss each to Chantilly and Oakton, and have split with Herndon and Westfield, bringing their record to 4-4 in the Concorde District.

The Centreville High varsity baseball team will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit the Washington, D.C. chapter of Operation Homefront during its home game on Tuesday, May 8 against Concorde District rival Oakton.

Day Determined to Build a Football Winner at Herndon

New Hornets' head coach wants team to be physically tough.

After being a part of two Northern Regional football titles, two state championships and six district crowns while serving as an assistant coach over the years at Concorde District high schools Westfield and Centreville, Brian Day, this past January, accepted the position as new head football coach at fellow Concorde rival Herndon High.

Wildcat Classic golf event set for April 30.

General Dynamics and the Wildcat golf team invite the community to the 8th Annual Wildcat Classic on Monday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton. The registration fee for this year’s event is $400 per foursome and $100 per individual. Registration includes greens fees, cart, range balls, on-course challenges, a tournament goodie bag, and admission to the awards reception and tournament banquet.

In Baseball, Concorde District Title is up for Grabs

No clear cut favorite as the six teams gear up for final month of regular season.

Back and refreshed from spring break week, the local high school baseball teams opened up the Concorde District portion of their schedules last week. For the final month of the regular season, the six Concorde teams, including Centre View area schools Centreville, Chantilly, and Westfield, will go head to head to determine regular season final standings and seedings for the postseason district tournament set to begin May 15.

Centreville High Sports Notebook (March 19 through April 6)

Wildcats' track opens with tri-meet at Oakton.

The Centreville High track and field teams opened their season in a tri-meet at Oakton High against division rivals Oakton and Chantilly on March 28. Wildcat coach Givon Holmes used the meet for an opportunity to look at the talent of new team personnel, as many athletes were participating in events for the first time.

All things considered, coming off a three-win season in 2012, being under a new head coach, and playing a tough schedule over the season's first half, the Centreville High girls' softball squad has been quite impressive thus far this spring.

Wildcat girls improve to 4-0 in lacrosse.

On Monday, March 26, the Centreville girls varsity lacrosse team improved its record to 4-0 by beating the Edison Eagles, 18-5. Sophomore Caroline Bollman (2 goals/1 assist) started the Wildcats moving toward victory with a nice feed from junior Carly Sane (6 goals/2 assists).
