Fairfax Rebels Softball Enjoying Strong Start to Season

The team, under coach Hoffert, is ready for the tough district schedule ahead.

After winning four of their first six games to open the current season, only losing to Liberty District opponents Madison and Mclean High, the Fairfax Rebels girls' softball team seems to be adapting well to their new coach, Matt Hoffert. And Hoffert has a clear view of what he would like to accomplish with his team this spring, explaining that he sees this season as one where his players will continue learning how to practice better and improving as a team.

High School Basketball Season Now Complete

Edison and Fairfax boys made super postseason runs; West Springfield girls qualified for states.

The high school basketball season is now complete for all Northern Region girls’ and boys’ teams. On the girls’ side, Oakton High captured the Virginia State AAA title for the first time ever under longtime head coach Fred Priester. The Cougars defeated Princess Anne (Virginia Beach), 58-39, in the state title game last Friday night at the Siegel Center in Richmond. Oakton, which has won three region crowns over the past four years, finished the winter season with a perfect 31-0 record.

Fairfax High’s basketball postseason of 2012 will long be remembered because of the team’s success as well as the grit and determination the Rebels showcased as three of their playoff contests were decided in overtime.

The Fairfax High girls’ basketball team did not stay down for long following a 58-46 Liberty District loss to first place Madison High on Monday, Jan. 17. The setback, which snapped a three-game win streak for the Rebels, hardly had a lingering affect for Fairfax, which came back to win its next two district games on the road.
